nasty looking concrete ceiling beams

by matt48 » Sat May 15, 2010 1:54 pm

Hello All, new poster here.

I am soon moving into a 1950's ex-council house and the ceiling in the living room has two beams running accross it - breaking the ceiling into 3 sections. The current owner tells me they are concrete boxed in to look tidier.

Can I remove all trace of them from site and have a completely smooth and uninterupted ceiling?

Can this be achieved by replacing them with lower profile modern steels? Any other ideas?

A mate suggested I board over them and lose a couple of inches of ceiling height but I am not a fan of this option.

Any help very gratefuly recieved!

Many thanks,
Matt

matt48,
Leave well alone and accept a lower ceiling height.
