Need Advice on Electric Shower Power

by JET » Sat Dec 06, 2025 2:57 pm

Hello

Would you be kind and give us some advice with regards to a suitable electric shower power in kW for the existing wiring?

Current Electric Shower
Mira Sport 10.8 kW
Connected to an MCB 40 Amps

This shower came with the house purchase, and we had no issues with the MCB tripping, failing or overheating. However, the shower started to leak from the outlet connector, so we want to replace it.

As we were looking for a new shower, we realised that a 10.8 kW is probably not suitable for the existing wiring. We wanted to seek an opinion from a qualified electrician, so we can buy the right electric shower.

I attached pictures with the Consumer Unit and the Electric Shower.

Would you recommend us to buy an electric shower of 9.0 kW, instead of 10.8 kW?

Many thanks

Sometimes people will install a larger rated shower than the cable is suitable for because they know no better. The determining factor is what is the cable size?

I would suggest no more than a 9.5 kw shower. So your suggestion of 9kw is fine.
