Our casement windows are 16 years old, and they are starting to fail. Some of the stiles are rotting. The glazing was never painted, and it has settled, leaving a pocket holding water. I'm wondering if I should dig out the top 1/4 of the old glazing, it's still soft and pliable, and fill in with new glazing at the proper angle. Then prime and paint it. Or put a layer of paintable caulk over the glaze and paint it. Also, do you think I should paint over the old glazing by the rails? Most of the windows are still good and I want to extend their life as much as possible.
