New thermostat

by Danc » Tue Jan 08, 2008 5:59 pm

Hi, I need to change my central heating room thermostat and am considering a digital type. My current stat is 2 wire mechanical type and i have been told i need battery powered type as there is no permanent live feed.

Is this a simple DIY job and does anyone have any suggestions as to which type / maufacturer would be best as there seem to be hundreds?

Many thanks.......

All the digital type of room stats are two wire, in fact it was only the old mechanical types that needed the third wire (a neutral) to work accurately.

A room stat is very easy to change particularly if you only have two wires to start with anyway!

Don't think there is a lot to choose between manufacturers. The only difference really is do you want a straight forward room stat or do you want a programmable one where you can set different temperatures at different times of the day.

Just leave the neutral unused. It does not effect the boiler operation.
