Not sure how best to insulate garage ceiling

by graeme2911 » Sun Mar 02, 2025 6:33 pm

Looking to shore my garage up a little to make it a bit warmer so it is useable a few more months of the year as I use it as office space. Ultimately want to knock it down for an extension in a few years so not wanting to spend a tonne of money on it.
Recently fitted a second hand roller door, and a upvc rear door and window, to replace knackered old wooden ones which created horrible drafts.

I want to add some insulation and boards to the ceiling to try and keep some of the warmth in. I'm concerned about ventilation and anything i install just becoming rotten - and then spreading to beams.

Couple of images attached. There are a couple of small vents just above the roller door, but I dont think it would be sufficient as there would be no air flow between the beams.

Can I get some suggestions / advice / warnings what to avoid, please? Bear in mind, I want it to be a cheap-ish solution.

TIA.

If youre wanting a cheap option, just stuff it with some rock wool or sprayfoam insulation and put some mdf up to hold it in place. Some might say to add a vent or two, but it wont make a difference. It wont get damp in there id expect
