Not sure what to do thanks to husband silly idea.

by nicolat78 » Wed Jul 30, 2008 4:52 pm

Can someone please give me some ideas.

We have just completed doing lamanated flooring and fitted wardrobes in our bed room.

Not long ago my hubbie decided to put his foot through the ceiling when moving the light fitting. Now i have a small whole in the ceiling where the new light has been moved to.

I have suggested papering ceiling again or putting up polystrene tiles to hide his, or even putting up a ceiling rose decorative to hide this. I know this sounds like im trying to get away with a new ceiling(yes i am)
He wants a polystrene ceiling rose, which i cant find no where.

Hubbie is making excuses up for every idea given.

Any help or advice would be great

Nicola

Ceiling Repair

I did a similar thing - 2 days after moving into our brand new house I slipped in the loft. Not suprisingly my wife was not sympathetic to my bruised leg !

I am only a hobby diyer so other people may have a better idea but - I simply cut out a square of the plaster board up to the joist on each side and then attached new batons to the joints. You can then cut a piece of plasterboard the same size as the hole and screw into the new batons thereby filling the hole.
I am not an expert plaster but I scraped the edges of the original ceiling to make a good join and then plastered with Board Finish. If your plastering finish is not great always use sandpaper and filler until you get the finish you want. But one tip when sanding a small area - use the paper on a flat block to prevent dips caused by the extra pressure at your finger tips.

My wife could even see where I went through once it was painted !

How big is the hole and what is the ceiling finished with. ie is it smooth plastered, artex, textured paper, lining paper, etc.

If its not too big a hole I would be tempted to repair, however it could cause you problems if you have a finish that needs matching in.
