Oil-based vs solvent paints for painting plasterboard wall

Post by phil_the » Thu Aug 10, 2023 2:49 pm

I am wanting to partly wallpaper and partly paint onto a new plasterboard wall. I found some old articles on other forums that suggest using an oil-based undercoat, so that if in the future the paper needs to be removed it can be done without damaging the plasterboard.
This seems like a good idea, but when I look for paint, I can't find any oil-based paints for sale. They all seem to be either water-based or solvent-based. Obviously I don't want water-based, but is solvent-based the same thing?
I'm looking at this from Screwfix:
https://www.screwfix.com/p/leyland-trade-undercoat-5ltr/63095
Will this do the job?
Also, for the parts I plan to paint rather than paper, will it be ok to use a water-based emulsion on top of this?

I did a bit more searching and it seems that oil-based and solvent-based are basicallly the same thing as I suspected.
