open system hot tank expansion pipe leaking All aspects of plumbing questions and answers, help, tips and information

Hey all, some advice please - the expansion pipe from the hot water tank in bathroom up to expansion tank is leaking vey slightly in the loft. The leak itself is totally inaccessible. If I cut the pipe to reroute it, with the boiler off, (and water not hot,) how much water should I expect to spill out, if any? Is it in any way dangerous to do so, (as the new section of pipe would have no water in it)?

Hi dudeless,
You will have to turn off the water supply to the cold tank, drain the system down so that the water level is below the level where you will cut the existing vent pipe. You will then be able to fit your new pipe with minimal water leakage.
