Optimum radiator mounting hight???? Help and information on all topics relating to your central heating, air conditioning and ventilation issues.

Hi, we are fitting new rads & wondered if there is an optimum hight from floor to bottom of rad to help with air flow & convection.
Cant seem to find this info on manufactures sites.

Not really it depends on the pipe runs.

For example if using 15mm pipe and they come down from above you need room above the skirting for 2x 15mm pipes and bends.

It's more for how it looks, they look better above the skirting, but not half way up the wall.

Best way is to look at the existing radiators.

Hi, thanks for getting back.
What we wanted to do was have no pipes coming out the floor. The problem is that they dont seem to sell a back entry radiator valve to enable us to bring the pipes straight out the stud walls into the rad. So it looks like we will have to drop down inside the stud wall & exit with the pipe at about 5-6" from the floor & back up to the rad valve. What we was worried about was the looks of the rad being higher & if it effects the air flow & heating of the room. Any idea's are appreciated.

No it shouldn't affect performance.

As for the pipes you can come out of the wall then with an elbow up, you'll only see the elbow then 1cm or so of pipe.

If the brackets for the radiator will allow it, these valves or similar with the valve heads on the front don't look bad at all.

Cheers htg, i think what you suggested & finding the right valve to mount on its side is a good way to go.
