Painted over wallpaper has now cracked - what should I do?

Post by ivy-DIY » Wed Jan 31, 2024 9:30 am

Hi,

I'm hoping for some advice about the repair to my wall. The previous owners had painted over the previous wallpaper. It was fine until I had a ceiling water leak a couple of years ago and now there's a crack in the paint of the wall and also a piece fell off as I was inspecting. I've attached the photo. I'm wondering what the options are for repairing it.

Would I be ok to use a filler knife to peal off the sections which aren't stuck to the wall anymore and then primer, filler, sand and paint the section removed (depending on size)? I've attached photos below.

Or am I better off removing all the wallpaper and starting from scratch?

Bear in mind I'm planning on moving within the next 6-months, if that influences people's advice on repairing!

Many thanks in advance for your help,

Ivy

Hi ivy-diy,
If you patch the wall you will never be able to disguise the repairs - bite the bullet and re paper the wall.
