Painting a design on kitchen tiles Advice and information on tiling and fixing tiles to a variety of surfaces

My kitchen has plain white tiles and I would like to paint a design (a large flower) on a large expanse of them behind the sink area. How do I go about it? Do I follow the normal procedure of primer and tile paint or should I use some other paint, like acrylic?
