Painting new Doors After Plastering

by Janbri » Sun Mar 01, 2020 3:24 pm

My son is in the process of having his house renovated and is new to diy. Just had new door linings and door fitted. The builder will then be plastering the walls. He has said the linings and door will have to be painted prior to painting. Is this correct or can they be painted after the plaster has dried or will there be a problem for the door and linings?

Hi,

Door linings should have a coat of primer on them prior the walls being plastered. The reason for this is that as plaster drys out it will want to shrink. If the door linning is not sealed with a coat of primer this could encourage the moister in the plaster to soak into the linning causing it to dry out too quickly and potentially crack.
