Painting tiles around gas fire

by angelicmandy » Wed Oct 03, 2012 6:03 pm

Hello, im a first-time user but havent been able to find this topic in the forum.
I have a gas fire which is an old fashioned style - black with shiny gold trim. It is surrounded by dark green tiles.

I would love to make it look better/more modern - without having the expense or hassle of replacing either the fire or the tiles.

Ive thought of trying to paint the gold trim on the actual fire - does anyone know if Hammerite heat resistant paint would be suitable for this - its available in black so would at least match the rest of the fire.

Also does anyone have any tips on the tiles too. I cant really tile over them as if i did this on the bottom ones they would come over the level of the surronding wood. I was thinking of maybe painting these too but wasntre sure if normal tile paint would be suitable as they are so near a flame/heat source.

Any advice is appreciated.

Here are some tips for painting over tiles:

Make sure you use a suitable paint as it is near the fire.
