Painting Used Pine Table White - How to Prevent Original Colour Showing?

Post by frenchman96 » Thu Aug 28, 2014 6:10 am

Hi there

I want to buy a used table that will probably be pine, and I want to paint it white.

Apart from the obvious of sanding etc, is there a way to prevent a knock showing the original colour.

Or is it straightforward, undercoat, undercoat, gloss.

HI, take a look at our page on preparing woodwork for painting: https://www.diydoctor.org.uk/projects/prepwood.htm

The key here is to sand back as much as possible, preferably to the orginal timber. It's a fair bit of work but with painting (as well as everything else in the building trade) it is the preperation which dictates how good the finished job will be.

Good luck and please do let us know how you get on as your feedback could help many others with a similar problem.
