Some SDS drills have a rotation lock for chiseling (spindle is not free to rotate) some don't.My Makita doesn't so if I'm using a flat bladed chisel, I have to hold it as if I were using a hammer and chisel, you then have the freedom to guide it, not very clever for your wrist if you need to do it for any length of time.It sounds as though yours may have both options. With a chisel in place (and no power for now) try turning it by hand in each selector position and see if the "locked" "unlocked" settings make sense now....All the best.
