Can anyone advise please. I basically want to take out the facing wall on my downstairs chimney leaving the side walls, just like making the height of the opening bigger. The chimney is in the centre of the house and backs onto another fire place in the opposite room. Both fire places are not used. I was thinking i can take out the original stone lintel and lift it up to the height i want. The internal structure diverts to the right as it ascends so the brick work on the right should not be a problem but im guessing the internal brickwork on the left as its getting bigger as it ascends will need some sort of support. The width of the opening is 1m
