Patches showing through paint

by chard » Sun Nov 11, 2007 11:24 pm

We're building a new house, the plastering has been finished and we have painted with one watered down coat of Gliddon trade matt and then 2 coats of crown matt paint (a few shades darker than magnolia) - the problem is that the walls are patchy round the door and window reveals and dsepite giving these areas extra coats it is not covering! :(

Our plasterer insists he has never sean this before and that it is not a problem with the plastering - any ideas why this is happening and how we can fix it???

Do you mean the plaster is showing dark or staining or can you see the edges of the patching

Has the plaster been given enough time to dry?? Have the door and window frames been sealed to the masonry property??

If yes to the above it could be a salt problem. Try a stain blocker, otherwise you may have to replaster taking precuations to prevent salts in the masonry migrating to the plaster.
