I've decided to open up my fireplace and put an electric stove inside. Before i get too far in to the job, there's 2 pipes inside, one is flexible and capped (see photo). The other is a short solid pipe that isnt capped. What can I do with these? The flexible one could be tacked to the inner of the fireplace i suppose but the short pipe is in the way, can this be removed and how would I go about it? Thanks!

I had the same thing when I opened up my fireplace recently but mine was electrical. Luckily only plug sockets, I had to reroute them and fill in the holes with fire cement.

They look like old gas pipes to me but I wouldn’t mess around with anything like that, I’d personally get someone to come and have a look at it to confirm its dead and remove it for you. It wouldn’t be an expensive job and would give you peace of mind.

Upon looking again one looks like old lead piping. Can you access where they lead to? Via a crawl space or something? I found some old lead pipes in my bathroom and chased them back to nothing so I knew they could be disposed of. That’s he only way I’d sort this myself if you can’t access them get someone to have a look.
