We are intending to install a wood burning stove in our 16 yr old house, no previous chimney just false chimney breast. We can go up through the eaves behind the bedroom above and through the roof with a twin-walled flue so that the silver tube is showing and will not be overlooked except by the cows in the field next door. We are not equipped to do this so are getting quotes from reputable professionals non of whom seem to know the answer to this question. I looked online and the building regs for East ayrshire say you don't need permission or a building warrant in a domestic building less than 3 stories to create a new chimney.
Don't want them knocking on the door afterwards, but does it cost to ask the Council if it's required? Should we just go ahead? I understand it costs about £300 to get p.permission and can take months but thought it was just for large prjects like extensions.
Anyone help?
