Platerboaring "inside" chimney breast advice

by M.Rassul » Mon Dec 21, 2020 11:34 am

Hi Forum I hope you are all well, ive got abit of DIY project planned in the coming days and just want some tips from the more experienced members here please.

I am going to mount a TV on a chimney breast, the old gas fire has already been ripped out and the recess will not be used for such purposes again, so I am going to make it into a little box to put an electrical socket and the skybox etc.

I am planning to cap the chimney and seal up the flue at the bottom with cement board like "No more Ply" brand. (will be vented)

My question is , once ive given the brickwork a good clean, and have a good seal on the chimney flue, is it ok to use standard plasterboard to line the inside of the recess? I was thinking of of cutting the plasterboard down to the right size and just attach it using grab adhesive.

Would this be ok ? are there any other issue with using plasterboard inside the chimney breast ?

Hi m.rassul
Plaster boarding the recess is the most practical solution.
