We are fitting a new kitchen soon where the sink and washing machine will be in a different location. I am working on modifying the supply pipework accordingly.

I have created a new branch from the rising main to where the cold tap will go and part way along this branch I have put an appliance valve T piece as per the instructions in the 'Plumbing - Washing / Dishwasher' project.

It occured to me last night that as a result of this setup there is no non-return valve to stop water flowing back from the washing machine.

Is what I have done ok and not worth worrying about?

Sorry, should have said that the appliance valve was for the washing machine if that wasn't obvious.

put in a non return valve.

Alot of washing machines have non-return valves built in - check manufacturers instructions.

Plus in the washing machine there's no way the dirty and clean water could mix - the filling of the washing machine is through the drawer.

Non-return valve are sometimes fitted to the waste to stop other appliances such as dishwasheres pumping food and dirty water into the washing machine.
