home office project

by urbantus » Wed Aug 08, 2007 8:09 pm

Im building a shed 4.8 m x 3.6 m in area

Im building it on top of a concrete slab

Is it a good idea to raise the joists off the slab

Im thinking of using joists rested on three rows of 100mm thick conc blocks ie span will be 1800 mm

What size joist would you go for
I m using 22 mm t&g flooring
Plus Im using insulation in floor

What type insulation and how should I fix it

The roof will be a sigle pitch roof spanning front to back
ie 3600 mm span
Im using 22mm t&g plus roof felt

What size timbers etc for roof

Do I need extra supports

What would be the roof pitch front to back

what type cladding can i use
how thick

Thx

What you are asking is how do I build a shed. Sitting here for an hour is beyond most peoples available "free" time. Go to any timber merchants and garden centres and see how the sheds are constructed. There are hundreds of ways of doing what you want to do so jusy check out your own methods with what has already been done. As it says obove every topic on this forum, check the projects first, all the timber sizes you need are in there under joists.

Thx for advice

This is my first ever project of this nature

I have spent ages working out how to carry it out

How does this seem

Flloor

150x50 mm trated joists set on top of 100x100 mm trated timber bearers

joists at 400 mm centres
bearers laid in concrete base at 1800 mm apart set perpendicular to joists

50 mm polystyrene insulation fitted within joists and held in place by battens

joists covered by 18 mm water proof ply

Walls

100x50 mm softwood timber
115x15 mm treated softwood shiplap
breathable membrane
12mm stirling board osb
insulation within studwork
vapor barrier on inside
plasterboard

Pent Roof
150x50 mm rafters at 400 mm centres
2 no 150x50 mm purlings bolted togeather
18 mm waterproof ply
three layers roofing felt

[not sure yet about the pitch or the insulation detail for the roof]

My main concern is tha external water and or condensation does not lessen the life of my shed

I would appreciate any comments on the above points

Regards

Urby
