It appears that my aluminium windows don't use the more common type of seal. They appear to slide in as a solid backing prevents the seal being prised out. They seem to be similar to this: http://www.amesbury.com/divisions/extruded-products/parts/200/3647

My question is: How are they removed? A casual look leads me to believe it could be a nightmare requiring a lot of dismantling. Please, somebody tell me there's an easy way staring me in the face.

The glazing beads clip in and out so you need to push something sharp (chisel or scraper) into the mitred joint and lever gently upward until the corner pops out, You can then remove each bead.

Thank you, yes, that does seem to be the way. My trusty Leatherman came to the rescue.

The next problem is getting new ones in. The reverse is slow and fiddly. I even tried making a tool out of Meccano, something like a blunt pizza cutter to make it easier but it didn't help. I think such a tool would need more refinement than my Heath Robinson-style attempt.

It has been suggested that I grind or drill the corners of the track, feed the new ones in and seal with a drop of silicon or the like. Any better ideas?
