Removing and Replacing Stained and Corroded Fireplace Trim

by baz_500 » Thu Nov 26, 2015 9:09 am

We are renovating our living room and the open coal fireplace is very tired! The fireplace is ok 'ish' but the brass trim around the opening is badly stained / corroded. I would like to remove this and fit a new trim - as seen on ebay. Some are fixed by some magnetic system. Would these be suitable?
How do I get the old trim off with the minimum of damage. The fire will still be an open coal / wood fire?
