Cold air Getting into House via Electricity Meter and Fuse Box Ask questions and find answers to many subjects relating to electrics and electrical work

Hi

I'm looking for a bit of advice, where our electricity meter is fitted there is a large hole that cables have been run through into our house - cold air is coming through this hole and coming out through our fuse box (which is badly mounted on two batons of wood).

is there a safe way to seal any holes - i've read that expanding foam should not be used near electrical cabling.

You are correct in saying that you should not use expanding foam around electric cables, as this would trap any heat generated in the cable in, which could lead to a fire.

It sounds like that the holes have been deliberately left for ventilation, although it is hard to know without understanding the situation. Frustrating, but it would be unwise to to advise anything other than to ensure that the ventilation is maintained.
