What to use to Fill Deep Holes in Wall that can then be Skimmed over?

by Jewelz » Sun Feb 07, 2016 12:48 pm

Hi,
I have several large holes in my walls (see pictures) which I need to fill and am a little confused as to what I should use to fill them. The worst holes are quite deep (2"), the plaster and what looks like cement has come away completely to reveal the brickwork. My YouTube visits have only served to confuse me more. So I have a few questions:

1)I was wondering if I should use a patch repair mortar?

2) would it be appropriate to use a ready made deep gap filler?

3) I am hoping to skim the walls (one coat plaster) after filling, could I just use the plaster to fill the gap?

4) What ever product I use do I completely fill the cavity? The YouTube videos that I have seen only seem to fill the top of the gap not the hole itself.

Would appreciate any advice please, Thank you.

you will need to paint the holes with a pva solution first, this will help bond the plaster to the brickwork.
To fill the holes, use Carlite bonding, overfill the holes and leave it to set.
When its fully set, you will need to scrape the area back by 3mm, use a paint scraper. then apply more pva around the area, and use thistle multi finish as the final coat,

Thank you for your reply. I had not heard of Carlite bonding, will do some research into that. Seems simple but wondering if it will be so simple when I start though!

Thanks again
