Wood Protection for Bathroom Framework to Protect from Moisture

by NigelSpink » Sun Jan 31, 2016 6:42 pm

Hello.

I'm building a frame around a bath that will support T and G wood panelling.

I'm wondering what the best way to treat the bare wood (if necessary?) that will comprise the frame?

In house I have:

Shed and roughcut Ronseal fence life
wood stain (interior/exterior)
Osmo oil (would rather not use this because its expensive)
Wood primer
2 in 1 wood primer and undercoat

Or do I need to buy something extra? as it's not going to be seen I'm hoping for a rough, one coat soution. Also it will be sealed behind panelling so not going to be exposed to much water except humidity. So doesn't need much protection I feel, but better to treat it with something than not.

Any advice much appreciated.

Thanks in advance.

No-one else seems to be replying so this might help.

The advice I got from Wood Finishers Direct, which specialises in oils, stains etc, when tacking pallet wood to a bathroom wall, was to use an external wood preservative on the wood before staining etc. Wood in a bathroom will be subject to moisture, water etc similar to external wood so treat it in the same way.Bartholomews, Ronseal, Thompsons all do reasonable cheap stuff. I think your Ronseal should be OK if you check it.

Thanks for the reply. That was my thinking too. External wood must endure more moisture so Ronseal way seems the most logical. The wood is external (treated) wood as well, so hopefully that should do the job.
