Dead bird smell in water tank for shower and hot water

by billobach181 » Sun Mar 27, 2016 11:32 am

Our shower and hot water system developed a bad smell and on investigation I found dead bird in water tank. I drained tank and although smell is slowly going it has not completely gone. What can I put in system to clear the smell and sterilise. And clean the system. I did not drain the HW cylinders.

The header tank only supplies the hot water system as all cold water taps are fed from the mains.
How the Starling got in there is a mystery as there is no eves access and the tank was covered.

Hope you can help get rid of remaining smelly shower/bath.

I would put some cleaning liquids wether bleach or what ever you have to clean and sterilize it then just run some water back threw so the bleach will not stick around, hopefully this helps :). For the smell could do something like a bath bomb if you just want it to be quick any easy, but this with some water and it will dessolve :).
