Unknown Connections on old Kitchen Wall in Ex-Council House

by ubuntootoo » Thu Mar 31, 2016 9:30 pm

Hi,

I am trying to do up an old kitchen in an ex-council house. It was built in the 50's sometime I think. There is a gas cooker with a hose to a gas pipe on a wall under a worktop. On the wall above the cooker there are two round connections of some sort and also above the sink. Are these gas? Ideally I would like to remove these so I can tile over them. The ones over the sink have been tiled around so maybe they can't be touched. When looking under the sink there are no visible pipes leading up to these connections so must be in the cavity I guess.

Sorry if I am being dim :-)

Any advice would be very much appreciated.

Thanks
Richard

The connections above the sink are hot&cold water supplies which would have had bib taps fitted above a belfast sink and could be still live,if so you would have to chisel out the wall and see if you can fit 2x female iron to copper caps.

The other 2 are probably gas pipes and again could be live as your cooker is connected to galvanised pipe.

Thank you for the reply. Based on your information I will probably leave them alone. It's a shame as they look bad but I don't want to risk a leak.

Cheers
Rich

Just wondering if you used upvc facia board on the window seal instead of tiles you might just cover the hot and cold pipes.
