Help With Removing a Wall to Wall Tiled Fire Surround

by Lauren83 » Mon Apr 11, 2016 12:06 pm

Hi
We have inherited a wall to wall tiled fireplace which is quite old fashioned (70s-80s) and we would like to completely remove it. The problem is I'm not very sure where to start! I have had a bash at removing one of the lower tiles and it appears to be concrete below. Any help or guidance as to how to tackle this would be much appreciated it definitely has to go!
Couldn't add an image unfortunately

Yes. I've also removed some tiles from the chimney breast and again there is a mix of concrete and metal behind this.

there might be 2 retaining clips buried in the plaster about 9" to 12" down from the top,I should imagine that it is a pre made one, lever out the surround might be heavy, then lever up the hearth, then you would have to make good.
