How to Get to Floor Beams in Attic Without Damaging Roof Information, help and advice on many architecture, self build and design problems and issues

May be a daft question but how do you get floor beams into the attic without taking the roof to bits my attic is 6m in length could i just use 2 lengths of 3.6m lengths and overlap or will i need a suporting wall/beam to do under the overlap. also if using a 400mm space between each beam what do i do when i come to the loft hatch?

Increase the loft hatch to allow the beams to enter, I assume your going to install some sort of ladder or stairs.

Thx will be adding some ladders and will increase the hatch size I take it I would need a supporting wall or rsj if I was use 2 smaller beams and join/overlap them in the middle

i have carried out many period terraced refurbs and used metal web joists 'posi joist' and have example drawings to show unfortunately you can'tn post pdf on this forum remove 2 rows of tile front and back. these joists clear the existing by approx. 150mm with no need to remove the existing ceiling othe r than mthe new stair well.. i suggest you contact 'howarth' tmber like i said unfortunately you can't post 'pdf'' otherwise i would have

you have to remove 2 rows of tiles front and back for a while to set the beams on the wallplates assuring they clear the existing by approx. 150mm for a sound floor I would use 195 x50mm

examples of metal web joists. best using quick stage scaffolding much safer than ladder used these in loft conversion they are se approx. 150mm above existing roof from eaves to eaves can easily reach upto 8 metre span @ 600mm simple 1 man op
