Access Door Leaking in Cast Iron Rainwater Pipe

by cablemunkey » Fri Apr 29, 2016 11:30 am

Hi the (original Victorian) rainwater drain pipe is leaking round the access door and causing damp in the wall behind (pic attached). How is it best to seal this? Is there a rubber gasket missing (or rotted after 140 years) or is there a specific type of sealant used?

Cheers!!

What a horrible job it would be to try and replace that section of pipe, the washer has perished, spray wd40 on the screws and try to undo,if your lucky buy some gasket sealer from a car parts shop, if not try puting
CT1 silicone around the outside, this is good stuff and still seals if it gets wet.

Thanks- I'll have a go at sealing it as suggested!
