Hi! I'm about to move into a new property next month and the upstairs uPVC windows don't appear to lock unless I am missing a trick. There is no lock for a key - is there any other way to lock other than with a key? Am I missing something?? When it is in the vertical position it doesn't open, move 90 degrees or 180, it opens - this isn't ideal as I have children and don't really want them falling out the upstairs bedroom windows!

The windows were installed when the house was built 2003 by Persimmon homes. Interior window code is: TOTAL 04 2003 Complies BS5713 - which doesn't really help as it just seems to take me to the british standard codes. A panel does in the interior says GU Feroc but they might just have supplied the part. Nothing on the handle tells me that this locks or if it does, HOW it locks in absence of a key?

Hi Alison these windows are meant to be used as escape in the event of fire this is why they can not be locked with a key. You can however fit a childproof device to windows to protect your children. These devices usually available from window companies.

Hi this may be a little late but it indeed does sound like they are fire escape handles which at first glance look like there is no key hole but most manufacturers put a black grommet in the original hole where the key would have fitted which can be removed with something sharp then exposing the key whole hope this may be of some help
