What can I Use to Repair the Side of a Roof Tiles that has Cracked?

During the last winter I've noticed some of the stuff from the side of my roof tiles has cracked and fallen off.

Firstly what is this - see pic - on the side of the roof tiles that's all cracked. Some type of clay/concrete?

What can I use to repair it?

you can use sand and cement, but pva the area first.
You can also buy dry verge, plastic sections, that cover it from the weather

there is a product 'dry verge' kits but the best is run a length of stainless steel bell end plaster stop bead for a sound key when you repair with mortar with pva and added fibre
