Hi there,

After recently buying an "old house" I seem to be coming up against problem after problem, here's my next dilemma...

When water drains from guttering and when the waste water from my washing machine collect, they're sitting against the bare brick of my house. Please see photo. This has taken away any mortar, and I would have thought will be penetrating into the house?

Any help or advice would be great.

It doesn't seem blocked, it's never overfilled. What am I extending down to? Should I drain the sitting water first?

No, the water is meant to be there to stop smells coming out,it's called a gully,like a 'u' bend on the sink or wc,

It doesn't sit against the bare brick unless it's blocked and rises above the gully, there is a clay gully where the water sits,it sits against the clay gully not the brick

its best to remove the paving around the gully, so access is easier, once removed, you can extend the pipework into the gully, stopping the water from hitting the brickwork.
Its difficult to see from the picture, but to me, the paving is too high against the house anyway.
