Ceiling Fan and Light Wiring Problem After Replacement

by bezzy3004 » Thu Jun 30, 2016 5:59 pm

Hi all.

I would be grateful for some advice on a wiring issue i have.
I have fitted a new ceiling fan\light in a front room the unit has two pull cords
one for the fan and one for the light, these function correctly ie switch it on\off and fan speeds. There are two single switches at either end of the room but none of them are working now with the wiring connected as shown. What confuses me is with the old fan light unit nothing was connected to the block marked ? but the switches worked ok. Your help is much appreciated.

Thanks Paul.

The light is normally connected to the red wire at the edge of ceiling rose but fan to reds in centre of ceiling rose.

Looking at your wiring diagram, it looks like you have connected the fan/light directly to the permanent live, instead of the switch line.
That is why the pull cords will operate both light and fan and the wall switches will not.

The brown cable of fan/light that is terminated to the loop with the three reds in, wants to be removed and terminated with the single red at the question marked block.
