New wall onto an existing wall with no ties problem.

by GrandfatherMax » Fri Aug 17, 2007 10:52 am

Hi all,

We have just moved into our new home and the started changing the kitchen. Turns out that the back wall is a new wall butting at 90 degrees to an existing wall except there are no wall ties and they both move independantly. How do I fix this? I know there are plenty of ways of doing it if you are building a new wall (crocodile ties and universal wall starter systems etc) but how do I do it when they are both built?

Also the old wall has been built using ash cement according to a builder who came round for another piece of work, it is very crumbly and brittle and when we fianlly attach units won't hold raw plugs. What option do I have there?

Any advice or help will be great.
