We have just moved into a new house (built in 1986) and the previous owner has sealed all the downstairs windows closed using clear silicone. The frames are wooden and from what I can see, the silicone was used all round the inside of the frame and then the window closed. I have tried to remove the external bead of silicone, but the window is shut tight (even tried a hammer to break any external paint that might be holding it). I am aware of silicone removers/solvents but these appear not be be suitable for porous surfaces (like wood) so am reluctant to try these. Any suggestions?
