HI, may I ask some advice. I have replaced a bathroom downlighter with a sealed unit. However, the previous hole was larger than is required for the current new downlighter (see image). The ceiling is lath and plaster.

Now, I am unsure how to fill the gap so that my new light fits snuggly into the space with no gaps.

If anyone has any advice I would be very grateful. Thank you.

you will need a piece of plasterboard cut square slightly bigger than the hole. Score the plasterboard just deeper than the paper, and snap it in two.
Mix some drywall adhesive and coat the inside of the hole with it. Make a hole in the plasterboard and insert a piece of string through it and tie one end. Place the plasterboard in the hole and use the string to pull it so it adheres to the adhesive. Once set fill the hole with more adhesive to just under finished height.
When its fully set you should be able to cut the hole you want.
