Weatherboard vs shiplap for constructing small stable

by LBird » Sat Sep 17, 2016 8:32 am

I am about to put up a small, timber stable block and am a bit shocked by how little the various suppliers seem to know about timber! I asked one if they used redwood and they said that I could paint it whatever colour I wanted.... :-D Needless to say I am not using them! I won't even bother telling you how confused they all are about softwood and hardwood.

My question is about the walls: what would be better, weatherboard or shiplap? Some companies charge more for weatherboard and other for shiplap. One told me that weatherboard is more weatherproof whilst another told me that shiplap is better. N.B. They will be lined internally.

The stables will be built in a fairly exposed position so being weatherproof is pretty important. Can anyone help please? Thank you :-)
