I have an issue with a damp timber block (parquet-type, small strips formed into squares).
Room smells damp, and the underside of a loose rug smells very musty.
In winter, the floor expands to bow upwards in one area - enough to impede a door opening/closing.
There's an cork expansion strip around some, but not all, of the perimeter - which I assume is responsible for the upward bow. Tiles seems to be loose-laid or weakly-glued directly onto slab.
The room, like others in the house, is always well ventilated, and often under-heated... which probably doesn't help, but the other (carpeted) rooms don't smell damp.
I'm wondering whether the slab is damp, and that's being absorbed into the wood... thus leading to the musty smell under the rug where damp can't evaporate into the air. (It's similar with a large sofa, which also smells musty in the air-space).
It's a rented house, so I'm limited in what I can do.
Because I often have windows open, I haven't seen much point in using a dehumidfier.
Suggestions appreciated - please and thanks.
