Insulation From the Inside Without Putting Insulation in Cavity

by manoname » Thu Sep 29, 2016 7:06 am

Hello !

I am working on a new project and need your help and knowledge, as I'm pretty new with insulation...

I would like to know if it's possible to improve the insulation of a room from inside, without putting anything inside of the walls ? By that I mean, would it be possible (technically speaking !) to simply hang some hemp (or other) panels against the walls for example, or place another kind of object in the room, and improve the insulation ?

Thank you in advance for your help !

While it is quite possible to insulate walls inside a house (or outside) rather than in the cavity where there is a cavity its a bit of a no brainer to use it as cavity insulation is cheap and very cost effective. But always do the roof first as that is where you get the best cost benefit.whether its in the cavity, outside, or inside it will always be quite thick as insulation value is a direct function of thickness.
Hemp fabrics will not have a significant effect. might look quite pretty though. any insulation is better than non but to have a significant effect on heat loss you are looking at losing 30-100mm from the inside of each external wall.

Ditto with above, also if there is no cavity insulation? it will only cost you about £20 plus the free grant you would get to get it all done professionally with very little mess..
