I have purchased an 1860's stone farmhouse. It is lovely but the previous owners have done some odd things. One of these odd things, that I have no idea what to do about, is that they have put a huge number of nails in the tongue and groove pine flooring in the upstairs of the house. Like, in some places, one per centimetre. It is very unsightly. One theory is that they did this to deal with squeeky floors but...not a great idea. So, I can't really sand and stain the floor with all of those nails in it. If I countersync the nails and fill with wood filler it will be a huge number of dots...many, many per board and I hate painting wood or putting a new floor over top of something with so much history. Any suggestions for what I might do?
