Replacing External Wooden Staircase With Metal and Regulations

by darrenbeech » Wed Jan 11, 2017 1:51 pm

We have some old timber stairs to the first floor on our garage (which is separate to the house, so not a dwelling). I would like to replace these with safer steel ones. But the current timber ones are pretty steep and I wonder about not meeting regs.
Can I just replace the timber ones with steel and keep the dimensions? As they're a replacement?
Or would I have to meet the current regs? If so, what are the regs in regard to minimum rise of each step, size of landing, angle of staircase etc.

Thanks,

Darren
