Fixing a Wallbed to Walls With Skirting Board

by robulous » Fri Jan 20, 2017 2:05 pm

I have a small studio flat and just bought a wall bed from Wallbedking to save space, but I'm not sure how best to secure it to the wall or floor.

The base unit is rectangular with screw holes for attaching it to the wall and/or floor. It's difficult attaching it to the wall because the skirting board pushes it out 3cm from the wall, and all the screws would be above the line of the skirting board. Also being an old house the floor and wall don't make a right angle, so even if I could fix it flush with the wall, only the very corner would touch the floor.

The floor has carpet and underlay, I'd rather not be drilling through my carpet, and I don't really want to remove the skirting board.

Any suggestions? I'm considering putting a 3cm thick piece of wood between the unit and the wall, and screwing through that holding it with masonry plugs. Fairly novice DIYer!
