What Render Mix for use in Fireplace?

by Heha » Sat Jan 21, 2017 10:46 am

Looking to have an open fire here, will purchase a basket with back to burn logs in.
My dad says he will render for me but not sure on ratios. What render mix (including ratios) do people recommend please?

it is best not to render the bricks as it will crack, you could rake out the joints and repoint the brickwork with a 3 sand 1 cement ratio

Thanks for that, did wonder.

I don't think he has the patience to repoint it all. I don't want to take the mickey either :-S

He said something about the bricks being too soft?

What about setting those narrow fire bricks all around? Could that be done somehow do you think?

Sorry for the totally newb questions and terminology!
