Black Mould Growth Above DPC but Plenty of Air Bricks

by Doug1955 » Tue Feb 21, 2017 12:25 pm

I have a problem with black mould above the damp course. There are plenty of air bricks below the dpc that seem to be clear and well vented but black mould growth above dpc on the inside would adding air bricks 2 or 3 bricks above the damp course at about 6 to 8 apart help the problem or would it cause cold spots, drafts or even more condensation and mould. Many thanks for your help. Doug

Hi Doug1955,
The bricks below DPC level are for ventilating the sub floor space.
If you have mould growing inside it is most likely due to poor room ventilation.
Your windows need opening daily but it will take some time to reduce damp levels inside the rooms. If this is not possible you will either have to buy a de-humidifier or pay out for a ventilation system but the latter does not come cheap.
