Fitting LCD to PlasterBoard Wall?

by nitro23456 » Sat Aug 18, 2007 3:11 pm

Hi

Hope this is in the right section.

Is it it possible to fit an LCD TV to a platerboard stud wall - ie will it be strong enough to hold the weight?

I havent bought the TV yet, but it will be in the realms of 20-26 inchs and probably 15-20kg max.

This isn't a question about what mount to use, more will the wall support it? Should I use redidrives? or should I try and find the studs and fix the mount to a stud each side?

The wall in question is a hollow plasterboard stud wall, not sure if the studs are 400 or 600 apart - how can I tell? tapping seems to not give any clues!

Stud Wall

Hi nitro23456,
Stud walls are not the best to fit brackets to support TV's of that weight, i'd recommend if you was going to fix the TV, you try find studs in wall first then measure distance between them, then find brackets that will fit across them. You can buy stud detectors from good DIY stores for less than a Tenner. Be careful of the cheaper ones though as they can give false readings and you can end up with a lot of holes you dont need. Follow this link to a decent detector.
