Replacing Existing Light Fitting for LED Batton Light

by Nathsx » Sat Apr 01, 2017 10:41 am

Morning all,

Looking to replace a fluorescent fitting for a LED batton light

Im just a little unsure how to connect it up.

As the LED is a flush fit to the ceiling can i just remove the box and connect the red to the brown on the new fitting and black to the blue?

The new fitting is double insulated and does not require a earth so if i was to remove the black box would i just wrap some insulation tape round the end and push it up into the void ?

Yes it should be fine to remove the existing ceiling rose and connect the red to brown and black to blue of LED fitting, the earth cable should then be placed in a connector block, try to avoid stuffing it up in the ceiling, even though the new fitting is double insulated and does not require an earth. The earth is still an important conductor, for measuring Zs and fault finding. So use a small connector and place it safely inside the enclosure of the new fitting.
