Hi all,

Just a quick couple of questions re ceiling lights.

I am installing new lights and really like two particular designs, however I wanted to know if there are any issues in terms of safety regarding paper and wood lighting products?

And do these products have a tendency to discolour or morph over time (5 years +)?

With LED bulbs there is very little heat from the bulb, however you need special tools to fit shades like that. In 1980 I was given an electricians tool kit when working in Algeria, it had one tool which I to start with had no idea what it was for, made by Fachom a French tool firm it had a screwdriver handle and two hinged fingers and a knurled knob to close them. This tool grips the ring which holds the shade in place where the hole in the shade to too small for a hand to get through, you would need one of these tools, never seen them on sale in the UK.

The big problem with LED bulbs is the light is not given out uniformly but in one direction, this means shades which worked well with tungsten look horrid with LED. I find having the bulb face up works well with LED with the light reflected off the white ceiling. Pointing down is no so good.

I am looking into getting a 'corn' style LED bulb which I believe are designed to spread light more evenly.
